May 20 2015
There were initially 119 blogs we monitor on website WebSM.org. These blogs are mostly about survey methodology – about news, new technology, web survey and mobile survey. Among these blogs some may no longer be active, which have been marked accordingly and updated.
Active and inactive blogs
Inactive blogs: This category includes blogs that did not upload any relevant post this year. In most cases blogs become inactive because they have just one editor and he cease to write posts. Or there are just not enough interesting topics related to web survey methodology. There are 59 inactive blogs which did not upload any relevant post this year or any post at all. More of them are categorized in group Software venders (34) and Market Research Companies (14), 10 of them are categorized in group Expert and 9 in group Association and Media. 7 blogs are not even working any more.
Active blogs: There are some blogs that upload great material, interesting information and news with direct or indirect relevance for survey methodology. They publish content that is directly relevant to us and they are denoted with a star (*). Criteria for marking blogs with * was that there is at least two relevant posts in this blog this year. There are 53 blogs marked as interesting and relevant. Most of them are categorized in group Software venders (23) and Market Research Companies (16), 10 of them are categorized in group Expert and only 4 in group Association and Media.
Blog posts of the year 2014
They did great job this year, they are interesting and innovative. One is Kinesis blog for certain. As we can see this blog is very active. Most of the content is related to mobile technology and marketing research. We found an interesting article called “Market Research Adopt Minimalism.” The author of the article is claiming that in the future surveys will become shorter and simpler. One of the interesting reasons for that is the fact that about 40 % of respondents are using their mobile device to take surveys nowadays.
The second interesting article is from the Qualtrics Blog – “How to Write Better Survey Questions.” This article offers some great tips to make better survey. You have to be conscious of your phrasing to get the most out of your survey. You also have to avoid leading respondents to a specific response.
The third selected article for 2014 is from SurveyPost and it is called “You Are What You Tweet: An Exploration of Tweets as an Auxiliary Data Source.” This article is talking about a study that asked respondents if the researchers could use the respondents’ recent tweets and combine them with their survey data. They found that Twitter can be a resource for estimating certain values.
